Biography
Soprano Charlotte Detrick hails from sunny South Florida, where her Danish parents settled when she was six months old. At a young age Charlotte began rigorous training in classical ballet, and as a teenager danced professionally with the Miami Ballet Company. Since graduating from the University of Miami with a degree in Vocal Performance, Ms. Detrick has developed into a much sought-after singing actress. Pinafore (at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center) and Elsie Maynard in Yeoman of the Guard (opposite tenor Brandon Jovanovich) as well as operatic classics: Marguerite in Faust, Nedda in Pagliacci, Clorinda in La Cenerentola (at the Belleayre Festival), the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and the title role in Rachmaninoff’s opera Francesca da Rimini. A champion of new works, Ms. Detrick has premiered art songs, oratorios, and operas, most recently the leading role of Brigitte in The Yellow Star at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in downtown Manhattan.
As a long-time company member of the New York City Opera, Charlotte has toured Japan, performed in numerous productions, and appeared in the 2008 Emmy award-winning "Live from Lincoln Center" telecast of Madama Butterfly. She has shared the stage with such luminaries as David Daniels, Stephanie Blythe, Jonas Kaufman, Marcello Giordani, Patricia Racette, Dmitri Horostovsky, Lauren Flanigan, Sarah Connolly, and Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson, and worked with noted directors Stephen Wadsworth, Francesca Zambello, Baz Luhrmann, JoAnne Akalaitis, Kasper Bech Holten, and Mark Lamos.
Charlotte resides in New York City with her husband, composer Bradley Detrick, and their son Zachary, also a composer.
